Realicé este diseño pensando en La familia y Amigos. Siempre que tenemos una reunión familiar y de amistad sin importar nuestro Genero, Raza o Color terminamos riendo y siendo felices, de igual forma atraemos a mas personas a formar parte de nuestra amistad por como nos ven en la convivencia. Como el fuego que se expande cuando inicia, asi se expande el Amor, Felicidad y La amistad.
Make this design thinking about family and friends. Every time we have a family and friendship gathering, regardless of our Gender, Race or Color, we end up laughing and being happy, in the same way we attract more people to be part of our friendship because of how they see us in the Combivencia. Like the fire that expands when it starts, so does Love, Happiness and Friendship expand.

I went to visit mi jefita…. She caught me up on family chisme… she mentioned my lil sister… the educator/ ethnic studies professor got into it with my jef- She told him she wanted to buy a lowrider. Mi jefe was absolutely furious with her-growing up, his chola daughters always wanted una Ranfla… but per his advice always went for newer “reliable” gas saving rides… when she said all this to me… my response was, “jefa yo quiero uno tambien” she looks up at me, but not surprise. Here is to manifesting una Ranfla- here is to old school respect and new school pride… my jefita is named Maria Guadalupe…. She was raised by a nun… these santo iconography are for moms… yes, it’s all about lowriders, culture, community and connection 1st generation kids to their traditional parents. Fui a visitar a mi jefita…. Ella me puso al día sobre el chisme familiar... mencionó a mi hermana pequeña... el educador/profesor de estudios étnicos se metió en eso con mi jef... Ella le dijo que quería comprar un lowrider. Mi jefe estaba absolutamente furioso con ella; mientras crecía, sus hijas cholas siempre querían una Ranfla... pero según su consejo siempre optaban por vehículos más nuevos y "confiables" que ahorran gasolina... cuando ella me dijo todo esto... mi respuesta fue: "jefa yo quiero". uno también” ella me mira, pero no se sorprende. Por manifestar una Ranfla, por el respeto de la vieja escuela y el orgullo de la nueva escuela… mi jefita se llama María Guadalupe…. Fue criada por una monja... esta iconografía del santo es para mamás... sí, se trata de lowriders, cultura, comunidad y conexión de los niños de primera generación con sus padres tradicionales. I used to have a dog named Toby and we were always together. Unfortunately, he passed away at the age of 7. I missed him dearly, he was my best friend and there for me at my darkest times as a kid. I was unfortunate but my mom comforted me by keeping the faith. She reminded me that he was in a better place. She told me when you love someone, you'll always see them again. That gave me comfort and I know deep in my heart that he's happier and in a better place. I saw the art style of Dias de los Muertos, and the different colors of the animals and I the just amazed I am on the art. Incorporated this art style into the this portrait. The bright colors depict the joy he gave me while he was here. The portrait is called amigo because I'll always carry him in my heart.
Solía tener un perro llamado Toby y siempre estábamos juntos. Desafortunadamente, falleció a la edad de 7 años. Lo extrañaba mucho, era mi mejor amigo y estuvo ahí para mí en mis momentos más oscuros cuando era niño. Tuve mala suerte, pero mi mamá me consoló manteniendo la fe. Ella me recordó que él estaba en un lugar mejor. Ella me dijo que cuando amas a alguien, siempre lo volverás a ver. Eso me consoló y sé en el fondo de mi corazón que él está más feliz y en un lugar mejor. Vi el estilo artístico de Días de los Muertos y los diferentes colores de los animales y me quedé asombrado con el arte. Incorporé este estilo artístico en este retrato. Los colores brillantes representan la alegría que me dio mientras estuvo aquí. El retrato se llama amigo porque siempre lo llevaré en mi corazón.

Although this drawing is a bit simple, I think it mostly captures a little bit of Hispanic heritage month, especially El Día de los Muertos. The sugar skull is highly popular around the season and is often placed on ofrendas. The pan dulces (sweet breads) are put out alongside photos of loved ones that have passed. Often the favorite food of that relative is put out so their soul can have their favorite sweet treat when making the journey during the Day of the Dead. My family often puts candles out as well so family members can be guided with the lights. The cempasúchiles (marigolds) are commonly known as the Day of the Dead flowers, for they symbolize the bridge that connects them to the homes of their living family members and friends. There are so many aspects of Hispanic Heritage month that are so abundant that cannot all be captured in this design, but these are the ones that are held closely in my heart as they are majorly emphasized in my family’s household.
Aunque este dibujo es un poco simple, creo que captura principalmente un poco del mes de la herencia hispana, especialmente el Día de los Muertos. La calavera de azúcar es muy popular durante esta temporada y a menudo se coloca en las ofrendas. Los pan dulces se exhiben junto con fotografías de seres queridos que han pasado. Muchas veces se saca la comida favorita de ese familiar para que su alma pueda tener su dulce favorito al realizar el viaje durante el Día de Muertos. Mi familia también suele apagar velas para que los miembros de la familia puedan guiarse con las luces. Los cempasúchiles son comúnmente conocidos como las flores del Día de Muertos, ya que simbolizan el puente que las conecta con los hogares de sus familiares y amigos vivos. Hay tantos aspectos del mes de la Herencia Hispana que son tan abundantes que no todos pueden capturarse en este diseño, pero estos son los que guardo muy en mi corazón ya que se enfatizan principalmente en el hogar de mi familia.

I chose to create this piece of art to represent Hispanic heritage. A part of my family is Mexican and I believe it is important to embrace the cultural aspects of being Hispanic. Learning about the Hispanic culture is truly fascinating to learn about and to carry those cultural aspects with me in the future is important to me.
Elegí crear esta obra de arte para representar la herencia hispana. Una parte de mi familia es mexicana y creo que es importante abrazar los aspectos culturales de ser hispano. Aprender sobre la cultura hispana es realmente fascinante y es importante para mí llevar esos aspectos culturales conmigo en el futuro.
